Jeff Gibson

North Qld Regional Wholesale Manager

Jeff GibsonBeing born and bred in Maryborough, and the son of a local builder, my first experience with Hyne was helping my dad collect materials from the local timber yard. Little was I to know the career path that lay ahead with this local timber yard.

After finishing my senior education in Maryborough, my first interview was with the late Warren Hyne, who was then the Managing Director of the company. The position was for a timber cadet. This interview really opened my eyes up to the size of the company and the potential opportunities that lay ahead with this organisation.

I accepted the position and started my training in January 1986. The three year cadetship program gave me experience in all sectors of the company gaining a diverse range of experience from harvesting the logs through the sawmilling process and into the sales division of the company.

After completing my cadetship I was soon appointed as the manager of the yet to be opened wholesale warehouse on the Sunshine Coast. I was one of the youngest managers to be appointed to such a position and saw this as a great opportunity, for advancement within the company. During this period, Hyne assisted me to do further management studies and in 2004 I completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) through the University of the Sunshine Coast.

After spending nearly 10 years on the Coast and building this operation into one of the larger wholesale outlets within Hyne, I relocated back to Maryborough to take on a national role of Sales and Marketing Manager for the Softwood Division. This role allowed me exposure into the larger southern markets of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth as well as exposure to export markets throughout South East Asia. After a few years based in Maryborough I relocated to Tumbarumba in country NSW to be part of the management team to build this business into one of the largest softwood producers in Australia.

I have recently moved to Cairns to take on the role of Central and North Queensland Regional Manager which I see as another step in an exciting and challenging career with Hyne.
